Shay is not your typical heroine; she’s gutsy,

though she knows who that is. Watching her go after Mikhail is as
entertaining as the love scenes themselves.
Mikhail is an Alpha male on a mission. He’s not
about to let his desires get the better of him…or so he thinks. I
really enjoyed the interaction between the two characters. I was a
little thrown off when the Immortal Blossom appeared, and with the
scene following, but pushed it aside to read more steamy sex. I knew
this was book one of a series, but when I got to the end I kept
trying to go to the next page."

It’s a fast-paced read full of hot and sexy encounters. While all of
our questions are not answered in this installment, clues are left
for us to hold on to as we wait for each new book.
Shay and Mikhail are
intriguing and while they do manage to uncover some of the mystery
surrounding the Immortal Blossom, we are still left with plenty of
suspense. Shay is a plus-size woman, and in a world where a size 8
is the supposed ideal it was refreshing to encounter a heroine I
could more readily relate to. Mikhail is sexy and confident and he
appreciates Shay and her beauty, as she is never trying to change
her or make her something she is not. Together, they manage to steam
up the sheets and make the reader like them.
Ms. Crenshaw raises
enough questions and leaves you guessing that you can’t help but
want to read the next book right away. That along with the heat she
pens makes CARNAL AWAKENING a very hot beginning to a promising new
series.

I initially didn't
expect to enjoy this short work from a new author to me. The
beginning offered a familiar plot device and there was a lot going
on for a short story. I understood the necessity of the detail and
explanation because it's the announced opening of a new series but I
found I really had to concentrate to follow it. That being said, the
author's writing style is appealing, her dialogue quite good, and
she did develop a very strong, clever story. The sensual scenes
didn't dominate the story I'm happy to say and they were also well
written and satisfyingly erotic in nature. All in all, a good read
and one that will have me watching for the next installment of The
Immortal Blossom series.
